The magical and all-knowing GOOGLE may be a good place to start. Wikipedia would be helpful. Expand beyond just subs and amps. Search and read about impedences, eletrical flow, wiring, sound frequencies, etc. Otherwise head down to a local library and look for a book on the subject.
I started looking at online car audio forums. Reading answers and explanations to common questions starts you off on the right foot. Then you can also ask your own questions.
After you get comfortable, work a little on your car, because hands on is the best way to learn. If you start little its not too expensive and is a pretty fun hobby.
