PRACTICAL SOLUTION for Ipod Car Stereo ?

I posted this question yesterday and got no answer. I hope this time someone reads it who can help me out. Thanks in advance.

I have a 2004 Mercedes that doesn’t have the direct Ipod integration from factory. The original audio system is really good Harman Kardon and the 6 CD magazine in the trunk. I use my Ipod , but the external FM connection is really sh!itty and gets a lot of interference and it looks so cheap when pushed into the lighter.

My husband is selling his car now and uninstalled the Kenwood Stereo with Ipod integration he used. He told me he would give it to me if I want it….but I am nor sure if to mess with the original stereo (as it is connected to the car computer) or to keep things as they are now. What are possible practical solutions for this?
thanks for the input.
I will look into the Harman Kardon products.
My car doesn’t have the tape anymore….the radio and computer are all set up in the central display like this one….

I guess I must post this in the Ipod section

Lol, just buy a new car you cheapskate!
Wait a minute, tell your husband to buy you a new car!

Edit; I’m sorry but I now realize how stupid my previous answer is.
    How about this solution?
Just copy all the songs in your IPOD onto cd’s and just insert 6 of them into your magazine every so often!

    Have you seen this?

You know, the best sollution that I know of looks really crappy, but it is effective and unlike my wife and I’s other car that has a full on iPod integration set up thing included it allows you to use the iPod as if you were just listening to it on headphones. The tape adapter. If you have a tape player in your car you’ll get clean sound and it allows you to access the ipod more efficiently than at least our integration system which forces you to always navigate the ipod from the sort of starting menu position.

I realize that tape players are pretty rare in cars now, but for what it’s worth I’m actually somewhat happy with my set up, although it does look kind of crappy.

Beyond that, the top poster is right. I would go to a Best Buy or a shop that does stereos and stereo installation to have it done right. I am completely inept when it comes to cars though so that may be just me.

Does your factory radio have an AV connection outlet? If not your only alternative is an after market system. Since your car is fairly expensive I wouldn’t mess with the system yourself, you run the risk of messing up a critical part of the cars computer. Go to a professional installer either at the dealership or local Electronic store. if you have equipment they will typically only charge you for the installation. I installed an after market on my car (myself, really stupid took me 5hrs but I did it) and listen to my ipod directly from my system. the sound is amazing and on some you can control your songs from the head unit. also check your local electronics store for an adapter that can hook up behind you factory radio and link it to the ipod. in some cases this adapter will charge your ipod as well.

here the solution remove the cd changer and plugs this into the fiber optic
    plugs in the trunk

full ipod controls from the Mercedes radio and steering wheel controls like if it was a cd changer NOT FM

    MERCEDES BENZ IPOD INTERFACE
